Creating a Folded Effect Letter

In this simple (senang tapi lama) tutorial i will show you on how to create a folding effect (lipat kertas) for a letter (typography). This tutorial is based on a tutorial made by Abduzeedo. This was made by him by using Photoshop, but i use GIMP. See more for details.

SELAMAT HARI RAYA (Metal Version)

Hi all.

Salam Ramadhan and Happy Aidil Fitri to those who celebrating it. Like me!

Do you like it? I mean the pictures though! It's metal plate with text on it.

I've been using the same stock image (those metal plate) and decided to do some engraved word on it. Not perfect though, but i like it a lot. Just need to mess with bevel and emboss, and pick the suitable font for it.

I used GIMP as always, because I don't have Photoshop. Hahahaha..

Anyway, Selamat menyambut Hari Raya Aidil Fitri, Maaf Zahir dan Batin!

What My Satio Could Do (part two)

Salam to all.

Here goes! It's not Photoshop but it's GIMP. It's taken me only 5 minutes to do this. I'm still not happy with this, but at least it's a start!.

Any comments?

What My Satio Could Do

Salam sejahtera.

I've taken this picture using my phone on one morning at my office. And i'm currently using Sony ericsson Satio 12MP.

I really like to do some picture editing here, but i'm clueless on what actually should i do with. So, here goes. I'll do the editing stuff later on.

Putting The Snow In Your Image Using GIMP

It has been a while since my last post.

And here i will show you on how to put snow in an image. There are many ways of doing it shown by other people and this is my version on it. I choose the KLCC image. :) and I'm using GIMP.

(here is the original image)

(and the results)

Step 1: Open an image.

Step 2: Select the fuzzy button (change mode to 'add to current selection') and click on the background of the building. Remember to click on everything including the sky and clouds.

Tumblr.

Memang aku teruja bila menggunakan tumblr. ni sebabnya aku ni bukanlah jenis yg banyak sangat nak tulis-tulis dalam blog. Aku cuma suka-suka dan hanya minat letak gambar banyak2 je.

So dengan tumblr ni ia ada theme yang banyak, cantik, menarik dan aku rasakan memang aku akan lebih banyak post kat tumblr. ni pasni.
Hehehehe

Smashing Text Effect

It has been a while since my last post. Lets start over again!.

I will show you how to create a smashing text effect by using GIMP. It may not be perfect, but the idea is there. Here goes! Harap-harap tutorial ini memberikan sedikit idea bagaimana untuk membuat teks yang kelihatan seperti telah pecah dan berkecai. This is actually taken from photoshop tutorial by Jacques van heerden. You can view it HERE.

1. Create new canvas. I prefer 1024 x 768
2. Fill with black.

3. Type the 'text', with size of 200px, coloured white.

4. Click the allignment tool, click on text and make it centered on the canvas.

5. Let's do some editing here, click on paths tool and draw a line around the letter P, and when you have closed the path remember to click the 'selection from path'.

6. Click cut or CTRL X, and paste again or CTRL V. Use the move tool to move the half of P around and click on create new layer to the floating selection. It should look like this.

7. Make another path and move it around like this.

8. Use the same technique to the rest of the letters. 'Ambil masa jugak nak buat serpihan bagi setiap huruf ni. Aku plak guna laptop screen kecik, sampai sakit mata aku terkelip-kelip depan screen nih. Kalu yang ade pc screen besor lagi best'.

9. Setelah siap serpihan tu dibuat, dapatkan stok gambar tekstur yang sesuai seperti yang ade dalam Deviants art, creativeoverflow.net dan banyak lagi la. I placed the concrete texture above all my other layers and set the blending mode to 'darken'.

10. Choose the drop shadow menu from the script fu>layer effect. Pick the angle of shadow accordingly. Aku pun banyak kali buat 'trial an error' :)

11. Our final step for this tutorial is pretty basic, I use the smashed glass image and import it into our Composition. Set the blending mode of the layer to 'Difference'. Why 'difference'? beats me.

12. Done! Hopefully you have smashed your text into pieces and I would be glad to hear any comment on this.

New Inspirations

I was so amazed with this picture that I came across few days ago. The artist is known as PHYZER. I like his work. Check out more work on photo-manipulation by him on his Deviant. Lots of great stuff in there. I bet he used Photoshop, I wish I had one, but I prefer GIMP for a constant challenge.
